Best Talents by Specialization — A Synergy Matrix, Not a Flat Tier List
Compare Grit, Anticipation, Cold-Blooded, and all 10 recruitable Talents by class role and squad synergy.
A flat Talent tier list hides the thing that matters: the same Talent changes value depending on AP cost, range, role, and how much risk the Operator takes. Use the matrix to match a Talent to the job you want it to do.
Fast matrix
| Specialization | Strong first looks | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Assault | Grit, A Life of Labor | Frontline risk rewards damage prevention and durability |
| Gunslinger | Anticipation, Grit, Cold-Blooded | Extra protection helps attack-heavy turns; crit setup fits burst turns |
| Heavy | Grit, Taunt, Anticipation | Doubles down on tanking or adds a second layer of avoidance |
| Medic | Anticipation, Espionage / Thievery | Survival plus campaign utility; the Medic already supplies healing |
| Scoundrel | Cold-Blooded, Anticipation | Crit setup and survivability fit a support/finisher hybrid |
| Scout | Anticipation, Sabotage, economy Talents | Scout can contribute value without needing to be the damage carry |
| Sharpshooter | Cold-Blooded, The Bigger They Are… | Guaranteed crit setup is exceptionally valuable with Longarm crit damage |
| Soldier | Grit, A Life of Labor | Straightforward durability complements an aggressive all-rounder |
Three high-impact Talents
Grit
Grit applies one Invulnerable stack once per turn and adds +2 maximum Health at base. Its upgrades improve Health scaling and can reach two Invulnerable stacks at level 3.
Anticipation
Anticipation applies one Evasion stack once per turn at base, gains extra uses through early upgrades, and can target an ally at level 3.
Cold-Blooded
Cold-Blooded applies Vicious, making the next attack a critical hit. On a Sharpshooter with a Longarm Blaster, that has a direct payoff because Longarm has the largest base critical-damage bonus of the four weapon classes.
Other recruitable Talents
The 10-Talent pool includes The Bigger They Are…, Taunt, A Life of Labor, Thievery, Sabotage, Espionage, and Fortitude. The Talent Matrix shows base effects and upgrade notes alongside each role fit.
Why “S tier” can be misleading
A Talent can be excellent but still wrong for the mission:
- Sabotage depends on explosive objects being present.
- Economy Talents pay off across the campaign, not necessarily inside one hard tactical fight.
- Cold-Blooded has more value when the Operator’s next attack has high crit payoff.
- Grit can be redundant if the Operator already has enough protection and the real bottleneck is damage or mission timer pressure.
Use the Talent Matrix to filter by Specialization and goal. Check the current in-game tooltip before committing your final points to a narrow upgrade breakpoint.
